Haiku and Free Verse

The Artists

we are little gods

one mind in many fractals

prompts surreal surprise

The Artists

we are little gods, creators

making

the unheard heard

the unseen seen

the unfelt felt

through our words

we speak for what comes up

and down

as the Magi of the imagination

where birth happens

sometimes whether we want it or not

the mind can be gloriously terrifying

and terrifyingly glorious

let us go inward to bring out

infinity

the endless

the beginningless

as the Magi of magick

seeking it in all things

everything is fuel for the fire

the earth around the heart is to be broken

cracking open the emotional ribcage

that keeps it all

neat, tidy, safe for the masses

we are the exquisite corpse

release it!

bring it forth, little gods!

our creation is necessary!

Thank you, #NaPoWriMo for today’s prompt. And now, to round out our first day, here’s our optional prompt! As with pretty much any discipline, music and art have their own vocabulary. Today, we challenge you to take inspiration from this glossary of musical terms, or this glossary of art terminology, and write a poem that uses a new-to-you word. For (imaginary) extra credit, work in a phrase from, or a reference to, the Florentine Codex.

From the Author: A fan of the surrealists, it was serendipitous that I went to “E” and immediately saw the term Exquisite Corpse. This concept inspired today’s haiku and free verse which came from my insides as pro-poetry poems. Creating art was first thing I did this morning. It’s the best type of workout to get the day started. Have a wonderful April 1st and Happy Writing!

Your Comments are Appreciated: Please feel free to share a line or two or more of surrealist poetry. The world of poetry is so full and there is much to choose from, it’s hard to pick just one. I’ll add a comment below pulled from Magnetic Fields, an incredible creation by Breton and Soupault. Hail to Exquisite Corpse!

P.S. This practice today has inspired a future date night 💜 with my wonderful partner and surrealist poet, Tracy Thomas.  I encourage you to give the Exquisite Corpse poetry style a try and surprise yourself with what you create, too
