the desert’s otherworldly worlds
dunes of silence except for the wind
lush with reminders
reminders of swirled trees of the vortices
Sedona with it’s red rock looking like
a backdrop of a Star Trek scene
where tribbles and jackalope play
arms open wide in Joshua Tree to release
the imagination where Dr. Suess-like
feelings take over with glimpses of the
Lorax in the twists
memories of celestial deer in Madeira
Canyon lush sky island where coatimundi
claim the cabin rooftops and the
committee of vultures look glorious in
strong tall leafless trees
endless scenes of this desert
memories gushing like lava
cool desert skies soothe me
as I moonbathe in lovers’ light
Today’s NaPoWriMo prompt: So today, try writing a poem that describes a place, particularly in terms of the animals, plants or other natural phenomena there. Sink into the sound of your location, and use a conversational tone. Incorporate slant rhymes (near or off-rhymes, like “angle” and “flamenco”) into your poem. And for an extra challenge – don’t reference birds or birdsong!
From the Author: Lately, one of the first things I like to do in morning is check out NaPoWriMo.net for the day’s prompt. I would like to revisit this one again and follow it closely to check the boxes. It sounds (was that a pun?) like something fun to create but for now here is my poem from a foggy but satisfied morning haze. Thanks for stopping by!
