early morning prep
before Monday’s rosy fingered dawn
but first, coffee – check
anti-gravity suit – check
custom-fitted helmet – check
unmentionable explorer things – check
finally, last but not least
a banishing ritual and a prayer – check, check
she climbs into the cockpit
switches and buttons, on
her eyes warm up to the glow
of a fluorescent screen
with purpose and determination
ready, rolling, take off
g-force woosh
flying high now
numbers, equations, calculations
accuracy, speed, hyperfocus
the tiniest wrong move
shakes all credibility
preparation, presentation
exploration of that final frontier
experience, knowledge, omnithought
on and on for hours
time to land now
the sun is setting
risks mitigated
gnosis shared
crunching numbers, sharing data
deep-dives
analyses, forecasts, output
spreadsheets and meetings
the daily adventures of
a senior business analyst
honey, I’m home
how was your day, dear?
oh you know, just another day
this good ol’ public servant
is satisfied and ready to do it
all over again
tomorrow
NaPoWriMo 2026 – Day Three Prompt: Today, we challenge you to write a poem in which a profession or vocation is described differently than it typically is considered to be. Perhaps your poem will feature a very relaxed brain surgeon, or a farmer that hates vegetables. Or maybe you have a poetical alter-ego of your own, who flies a non-wan, treasure-hunting flag with pride.
Hi Y’all! I’m back for day three and thanks for coming along for a ride. Welcome to my work life. Data analyses might bore lots of folks but this ol’ gal finds it fascinating like what people might think a more exciting job would be: an adventure, exciting, one big puzzle that is so fun to solve. Just a little glimpse of what I do during what I’ve heard is called the daily grind. I hope you enjoyed coming along with me for a day’s work in data science as a public servant. Take care and talk soon.
Very well done and you chose a great way to describe your job with the launch of Artemis II.
